Unfortunately we had a really bad experience at the Altafulla Mar Hotel that could have easily been avoided with some decent customer service, clear communication and basic politeness. Our big problem was with the parking. When we arrived, we parked in the hotel’s car park and at check-in added parking for our stay. Once we got to know the area it was clear there was loads of parking nearby so the following day when returning from a day out we parked on the streets and went to reception to ask them to cancel parking for the remainder of our stay. We were told this wasn’t possible because we’d already paid and it was non-refundable. This in itself was disappointing - they were very quick to take money off us at check-in but very reluctant to issue a refund only a day later. However, given we’d already paid for the parking we thought we might as well use it, so moved the car from the street back to the hotel car park for the remainder of our trip. A few days later when checking out, we were asked to pay for parking!! I explained to the receptionist that we’d already paid and the fact that we’d already paid had stopped us from cancelling the parking when we wanted to. He insisted that we hadn’t paid… I explained the previous conversation and he said that parking was only non-refundable when pre-booked, not if added to the booking at check-in - so we should have been able to cancel the parking when we wanted to… Then we had a long conversation where I explained that I only used the parking after the first day because I was told I’d already paid for it. Otherwise, my preference would have been to cancel after the first day and I wouldn’t have used the hotel car park at all after that day. He seemed to understand and we ended up agreeing that I’d only pay for one night of parking - which seemed fair. Later, as my wife and I made our way down to the car park with our newborn baby to leave, the receptionist reappeared and the first thing he said was to accuse me of lying to him!!! He had misunderstood and thought that we had been parked on the street since the first day and didn’t realised we had moved the car back into the car park when we were told we’d already paid for it and couldn’t cancel. After a long conversation where I repeated everything noted above that I’d already explained, and during which he continued to be incredibly rude, I was marched back up to reception to pay the balance for the remaining days of parking! My wife and our newborn baby were left shut out from the car park in a basement while this was all happening with no access to the car. It was a pretty unbelievable situation to find ourselves in in a hotel like this that’s supposed to be 4-star and have high standards of customer service. To resolve the situation, I was given contact details for the hotel manager to explain the situation and hopefully get a refund. I’ve since emailed multiple times - both the address I was given and the main email address on thei
